Design for digital media BRIEF - Task 1, Print

For creating my montage I have used index visual sign that requires particular knowledge in mythology to read it correctly. As a basis for this picture I have took myth about Samson. Who had all his power in his hairs. Also I have worked out variant that somebody wouldn’t be familiar with that myth, for this case I put down the short prompt explaining the meaning of the picture.
I think that I have managed to save the style on the whole brochure I have produced. I mean that shapes of font well match the line style in the illustrations.
For this montage I have used five different medias – photography (Canon EOS 350), calligraphy (ink and pens), vector (illustrator) and raster graphics (photoshop). And in the end I put all this things together and created four pages layout in Quark.
I think that I have managed to achieve desirable result and final piece looks approximately I have expected. Except little defects made by printer. You may see little spots of black ink in some areas. The only thing that I haven’t put into account is paper quality, I wish it would more weight.
By the beginning I wanted to include some 3D objects to my montage. But research showed that I haven’t got enough skills to achieve desirable result. So I have decided do not include any 3D elements.
I have planned time well and managed to submit my piece within deadlines. It was good experience to get familiar with general project management and process of producing the work. Software and hardware inductions and lectures helped me a lot to achieve the target.

Initial Sketches.

I’ve decided to perform me and my interests as a antique building which has a hint on the Parfenon temple, but wouldn’t exactly reproduce it. It is not essential in this context.

Architrave, frieze and eaves would represent my personality which would be supported by the columns that perform my interest and things I do. This conception has next meaning – if human doesn’t do anything and hasn’t got any interests his personality would fall down in the community. And he would become more like a plant. I mean the human consists of the things he do in his live.

Columns would go by the perimetr of the building, so we have problems about viewing all the columns (so and reading the text). Because of that I decided create a draft showing 3 general views of the building and one more view in perspective. Something similiar to the axonometric sketch. Also the would be one more collage showning this bulding in the invironment, for example on the hill. Basically its going to be something like an architectural project.

For producing final work I am planing to use 3D, 2D and photography. Print format approx. A3-A4

p.s. after creating this conception I was surpriced when Anna showed us Alex Gopher's short movie "The Child". Despite of that I decided to stay with my conception.

This sketches has conception taken from the Greek mythology about Samson who has all his power in his hairs.

this is basically keys to me through the things i like.

For the basis of this idea taken original Da Vinci's drawing. Next to the particular body parts placed small thumbnails or words showing my interests. Next to the head located icons showing things i am think about. Next to hands - things that I actually do by my hands - play music, paint, etc. Next to legs - skiing, travelling, cycling and etc.

Fonts

Because we've been speaking about the fonts on the last lesson with Anna, I want to show you my old work which I've made in 2005 year for the holiday called "International Woman's Day". This holiday was made up in the ex Soviet Union (which included 15 republics) that is why it was named "International". But USSR doesn't exists anymore but it left lots of good holidays after it self and one of them - "International Womans Day" and it still celebrating in those countries on the 8th of March, every year.
I've created this greeting using only fonts and generally digit "8".
